About Thumbkeeper

Thumbkeeper is a single-page tool for getting the thumbnail images YouTube already publishes for a video, at the exact size each one is served in.

What the tool does

Paste a YouTube link or an 11-character video ID. The page checks the five public thumbnail endpoints — default, mqdefault, hqdefault, sddefault and maxresdefault — and shows each one it actually received, with the pixel dimensions measured from the file itself. If a tier has no image, that card says Unavailable. Nothing is substituted or upscaled.

Each card offers three actions: preview the image in a new tab, download the file, or copy the image URL. There is no account, no queue, no batch mode and no API key.

How it runs

The page is a set of static files. There is no application server behind it, so the link you paste is not sent to us for processing — the browser parses the link and then requests the image files directly from YouTube's image servers. You can see every request in your browser's network panel.

Who runs it

Thumbkeeper is maintained by an independent developer.

Thumbkeeper is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. Thumbnail images belong to their respective owners; the tool only links to copies that YouTube already serves publicly.
